Each Samurai was an integral part of a feudalistic society wherein he served the nobility as a warrior, agent, and advisor. While loyalty to one’s Lord or Daimyo was the norm, some Samurai ultimately chose to be loyal to the Emperor himself, regardless of intervening bureaucracy; which would occasionally put the warrior at odds with his immediate superiors.
